Bite of the Iguana

Drinking is a way of ending the day. - Earnest Hemingway.

A fusion of the Bloody Mary and the Margarita. When you finish one of these you'll know something just "bit ya" but you won't care.

Pepper Vodka

by Emeril Lagasse

This Recipe is for Vodka -- But it will work just as well for Tequila.  Just substitute an equal amount.

Ingredients

  • 1 (750-ml) bottle best quality Vodka
  • 1 fresh red Jalapeno or red Fresno Pepper, slit in 1/2 lengthwise, stem left intact
  • 1 fresh green Jalapeno Pepper, slit in 1/2 lengthwise, stem left intact
  • 1 fresh Serrano or green Cayenne Pepper, slit in 1/2 lengthwise, stem left intact
  • 2 cloves Garlic, peeled

Directions

  1. Pour out enough vodka from the bottle in order to make room for the peppers and reserve for another use. (Drinking, perhaps? -- Mark)
  2. Carefully add the peppers and garlic to the vodka, pouring out more liquid if need be.
  3. Cap and let stand at room temperature until the vodka acquires the desired heat, about 1 week. (It really gets about as hot as it's going to after the first couple of days. Although it won't hurt the Pepper Vodka, anything longer than a week, is completely unnecessary. -- Mark)
  4. Serve, or remove the peppers and keep in the freezer. (It's okay to leave them in. -- Mark)
